Zizea aptera, yellow, 12-30", May-June. Wide leaves. Very distinguishable from Z.aurea by its basal leaves that are entire and heart-shaped. Flowers are held in an umbel-shape. Light shade to sun and generally dry conditions but thrives in average garden soils as well(drought tolerant). Its natural habit is moist to dry black soil prairies, hill prairies, rocky upland woodlands, limestone glades, bluffs, abandoned fields, and roadsides. This species occurs and tolerates much drier locations than Z.aurea! zone3-8 NATIVE! "Heartleaf Alexanders"
