Teucrium canadense, purplish-pink, 28-36", June-September. The heaviest of the blooms appear July-August. Woody-based, clump-forming, rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial of the mint family. Stout, hollow, hairy, square stems clad with opposite leaves topped by terminal spikes of flowers. Leaves are lanceolate to narrow-ovate, coarsely toothed, sharply-pointed, short-stalked, aromatic when crushed. Soft-hairy above and grayish-hairy beneath. Two-lipped flowers in spike-like racemes. NATIVE to eastern and central North America where it can be found in moist woods, thickets, and marshes, prairies, wet meadows, low woodlands, fields, and along streams and railroads. Native Americans used the leaves to make medicinal teas. Leaves were steeped in water for use in healing sores and ulcers of the skin.
