palmatus GOLDEN PALMS

Petasites palmatus `Golden Palms', white frilly blooms, 12-18", march. The flowers appear before the leaves. The leaves emerge on stalks 24-30"high and are golden yellow to start and aging to a chartreusy-yellow. leaves are palmately dissected and large in diameter. Generally grown in shade but if you can do high shade where bright light filters through you will get the BEST of the golden foliage effect. Wants wet, moist, or at least boggy soils. On hot summer days they may appear wilted but this is only a natural reation to conserve the water. As soon as the evening rolls around they perk right up again. zone6. "Golden Butterbur"
