Liatris pycnostachya, rose-purple, 48", July-September. The tallest of the "Blazing Stars". In fact, if you try and star gaze near a meadow in its habitat they will block you view except for maybe the Big Dipper. The flowers are more compacted along the stems but still button-like. Great for walking trails, meadows, large land borders. Super butterfly attractor. If you were to drive by a county where they have formed a colony you'd rubber-neck to see how many butterflies and hummingbirds are flying about. zone 3-8. "Prairie Blazing Star"
