Schizachryrium scoparium `The Blues', clump forming, fine textured, blue blades to20"high and flowers to 36-40". Tolerant of a wide range of conditions from average to extremely dry, and able to grow in regular soils to acid and alkaline soils. Little bluestem is a valuable forage grass and has long been widely planted for this reason since the slow disappearance of our great prairies. NATIVE to prairies and open woods, dry fields and hills from Maine to Idaho and south to Arizona and Florida. A great sea shore plant. This blue selection of choice was named by Kurt Bluemel's nursery and North Creek Nurseries, selected from seedlings of S.`Aldous' provided by Dick Lighty from right here in our great state of Penssylvania.
