GITCHIGUMI

Hosta `Gitchigumi', large PURE white flowers 2" long, bell-shaped, 36-40", July. LARGE. Mounds 28" high by 48"wide. Leaves 14" long by 12" wide(12-13vp); VERY SHINY blue, large ALMOST ROUND! leaves HELD HORIZONTAL! Seersuckered, heavily budded. Very thick substance. Undersides pale turquoise-glaucous! A little wavy, corrugated. Slow growth rate. Blue colored scapes. Olga named this hosta after Lake Superior and the Ojibwe Indians language in which Gitchigumi stands for BIG WATER!
When the wind blows and you see the WHITE-CAP UNDERSIDES of the leaves you get the feeling that the Edmund Fitzgerald is ready to capsize! on what Lake Superior has to offer in a storm! TREMENDOUS!!
