  • Model: HOSPATRAED

Hosta `Pat Raeder'. See if I can CLUE you in on the meaning of this. 3+eye division! Donated(remember that like GIFT and so much more)by Rod Hillstrom, Plymouth, Minnesota. RARE. RARE. Did I write RARE WRite! I don't think we could find more than 6 OUT THERE somewhere? H.`Pat Reader' is an introduction of Bob Kuk, Brecksville, Ohio, registered in 2011. Parentage is (H.`Galaxy' x unknown). (H.`Galaxy Light', a Bill and Eleanor Lachman discovery, is a sport of H.`Galaxy', a popular Lachman Hybrid.) Bob passed away in 2012 at age 65. He was a premier Hosta hybridizer. Kuk Forest, his highly-acclaimed nursery, was a landscaping and GEOLOGICAL WONDER-ment. The leaves of H.`Pat Reader' have IRREGULAR, wide yellow margins handsomely JETTING INTO a dark green center. margin color lightens later in the season. mature clumps are about 20" high and 30"wide; leaves are about 10"long by 8"wide. Flowers: deep lavender, near purple. Bob named this hosta for Pat Reader, a prominent HOSTA COLLECTOR and gardener WHoo lived nearby in Brecksville. her garden and Bob Kuk's Forest were on the coach TOURS at/during the 2005 Cleveland, Ohio AHS National Convention. She showcased a HUGE CLUMP of H.`Pat reader' that made heads "spin". Rod's donation/GIFT is an H.`Pat Reader' plant found by the Minnesota Hosta Society in a local nursery in 2016 and sold by MHS last year(2017). Rod indicates he's quite certain this may be a Tissue Cultured clone. Kuk Forest was noted for OFFERING Originator's Stock(OS), but seemingly a small tissue-cultured batch was propagated by now closed Shady Oaks Bursery in Minnesota. MHS members report THESE Hostas are EXCELLENT GROWERS and perhaps "Where Great Gardens Begin"(TM) one day. I think this is one of the auction winners I'm not allowed to sell, just as well, or so it seems. I have 4 and the inconsistency is noticeable in each which leads me to believe WHy I bid MYself up to $300! for a non-sharable item? Updated 10/7/19. MEDIUM. Mounds 15" high by 18"wide. Leaves 6" long by 5 1/4" wide(11vp); variable cream white with light green streaks! (the one I received does not reflect these characteristics(tc?). Slightly rippled, broad ovate(YES, there's a time and the time is write for me), lavender,18-21", July-August. Moderately corrugated? Hmm, barely.
