SAISHU JIMA

Hosta `Saishu Jima', purple, 15-19", August. SMALL. Dense mounds of very wavy, shiny, medium to dark green foliage. Leaves very narrow, elliptic, wavy and lightly twisted; lance shapes; smooth textured, shiny underneath; reddish-purple dots on long petioles. Distinct when you see it for awhile. Mounds 7-8"high by 13-20"wide. Leaves 3.5"long by 1.25"wide(4vp). Fast growth rate. Flowers are somewhat large for a small-mini being 1 5/8"long by 1 1/2"wide, striped purple and tubular. In bloom this seems electric! (2002, P.Ruh. Sent over from Japan by Gus Krossa to Alex Summers in 1967). Ya, see! If it's been likes this long for being a small green then its gotta be NICE!
