Helianthis divaricatus, clear yellow, 50-70"(4-6ft), July-September. Fist the difference from the other species: relatively smooth stems and very short or non-existent leaf stalks. Leaves are lance shaped and opposite. Sun or part shade with either dry or moist soil. Does well in sandy soils. Native along the east coast from Maine down thru Florida and west to Wisconsin and Oaklahoma. Found in dry open woods, sparsely wooded bluffs, savannas, open sandy or rocky woodlands, limestone glades, hill prairies, moist to dry sand prairies and roadsides. Leaves can reach up to 6"long and are sharply pointed. NATIVE. zone5 "Woodland Sunflower"
