SPODIOPOGON sibiricus

Spodiopogon sibiricus, brownish inflorescens, 36-48", July thru February! Panicles resemble those of a Panicum although wider, 3-4"wide, 8-12"long. Foliage appear bamboo-like being narrow and wide. Flowers are held well above the foliage creating a great airy effect. Clumps form up to 24"wide. The foliage creates a BOLD architectural pattern, and displays purplish-wine tints in late season, fall thru winter. Full sun to part-shade. Medium to wet soils. Showy. Great dried cut flower. Grows under Black Walnuts and in gardens or landscapes exposed to Air Pollution! Grows poorly in hot climates. Somewhat difficult to establish, but once established works its wonders in adverse conditions mentioned. Plant it in front of an Auto Mechanics exhaust shoot! "Frist Grass".
