tripteris GOLD STANDARD(gallon)

Coreopsis tripteris `Gold Standard', yellow with black center, 5-6'(ft!), July-September. This is a selection made by the Mt.Cuba Center, Hockessin, DE. SO what's the "hype" all about? Well, it is stated that at 5-6'(ft!) this is SLIGHTLY shorter than the species? Hmmm. Still pretty tall. I found somewhere someone measured it 12"(1 foot)shorter than the species over a period of 3years? The other selected factor is that it blooms within itself. That is, some stems bloom at anywhere from 2ft up to the 6ft so NOW we have a FULLER appearing plant than the tall empty stems of the species? This is achieved by the self-branching habit noted through-out this 3 year trial. This allows us to claim it is "floriferous". And it's documented that this selection ONLY spread 24"(2ft)over it's 3yr trial period bringing the notion of COMPACT. So, if you've ever seen or picked up a copy of the "Translation Means" paper we have: A compact, more sturdy, long and heavy blooming selection of our native species.
