Acanthus mollis, lavender-purple spikes, 30", August. Clump forming by underground roots and rhizomes. Grown for its architecturally bold flowers spikes and foliage. Generally described as creamy white although pronouncedly noticed is it's purple lips and the resemblance of snapdragon-like flowers. Flower stalks can reach two feet in length! Moderately lobed leaves, glossy. Native to the Mediterranean region. zon6-10. Part-shade, winter element protected. June-July.
