VANILLA GRASS

Also called Sweet Vernal Grass. A Siberiena native, this is a sweetly-scented, aromatic, tufted grass with short, narrow, green leaves and dense, compact yellowish flower spikes reaching up to 24". Grows in small ornamental clumps. Contains coumarin glycoside which when dried, has the scent of new-mown hay, similar to sweet woodruff, and benzoic acid which imparts the sweet fragrance. Perennial, zone 6.
