SAGE MEXICAN BUSH

Very robust growing and ornamental sage from the south, Texas and Mexico. Tough, drought tolerant, highly pest resistant salvia with super showy spikes with flowers of purple and white, or solid purple blossoms that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Great cut flower and very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Grows 5ft tall and 3ft wide. A semi-woody perennial in milder climates but not winter hardy. Makes a super fall show! There are several selections that have been made. Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara' is, relatively speaking, a dwarf selection with the same rich indigo blue flowers and long blooming nature but reach only about 3ft tall. Salvia leucantha 'All Purple' is a selection with spikes of all velvety purple bracts and purple corollas reaching 48". Salvia leucantha 'Emerald' has white with purple calyces reaching 48-60". An amazingly picturesque plant with slender stems of fuzzy flowers that bloom in the fall. Drought tolerant and can grow as wide as it is tall. A hardier variety which will withstand temps down to 15-20 degrees if well established. Salvia leucantha 'Midnight' has the calyces and flowers all purple. It also can withstand temps to 15-20 degrees if well established. Drought tolerant. Gets as wide as it does tall.
