Vernonia noveboracensis, purple, 48-72", September-November. Narrow leaves. Large open head of frilly flowers. Butterfly heli-pad. Try pulling this out of the ground after planting it! Even a small one that is only 2ft high! You'll feel why the call it "Iron Weed". "New York Iron Weed" to boot! One of our better natives that provides a show. It slowly rides each spring in thick clumps with loads of stems. Then explodes in the fall with vibrant purple flowers. A show stopper.
