flexicaulis

Solidago flexicaulis, yellow, 24-36", August-September. A couple of distinguishing feature are 1st:the stems are crooked(zig-zag)up to a 45degree angle each way sometimes and 2nd:the flowers are in the leaf axils. Stems are hairy and tend to zigzag between alternate leaves. The leaves get to 2-5"long and 1-4"across becoming shorter and more narrow towards the top. Bottom leaves are broadly ovate. Leaf margin serrated. Flowers are borne more in racemes or narrow panicles. Grown generally in light to medium shade, most to dry conditions. This goldenrod is more tolerant of shade than most. Natural habitat includes rich deciduous woodlands, wooded slopes, low areas along woodland streams, shaded limestone cliffs and in higher quality natural areas(Will live gloriously in the shade garden). zones 3-9 "Zigzag Goldenrod", "Broad-Leaved Goldenrod"(Euthamia flexicaulis)
