reptans

Salvia reptans, soft blue, 10", August-September. I gotta list this for my "Plant Dictionary". From the USDA this initial description does not match up with what I just received from Joy Creek Nursery. USDA:(West Texas Grass Sage)Small clusters of true blue flowers are spaced widely along the grass-like stems of this airy West Texas mountain sage. zones 5-9. Height 48"! width 24", flower height 48".Sun, part-shade. Well-draine, rich soil. 4ft long flower spikes are everything we/you want: hummingbird, pollinator, honeybees, butterflies. My stock is from Joy Creek Nursery, Scappoose, OR.: We raised this from seed many years ago but have not listed it as it did not meet the botanical description. Joy Creek's seedliing has mid-blue flowers that have expanded lower lips that are speckled white. They are borne in whorls on 2-foot stems trailing. Narrow foliage. They have it draping over a rock wall or down a short slope(means it "reptans"/lays low, fall over in bloom(not floppy!). So far it is/appears as Joy Creek states. Stock from Joy Creek Nursery 11/15/21. Joy creek says zone 8-10. USDA says 5-9.
