Petasites japonicas `Purpurea', creamy-whitish,10-12",March. This is the little flower ball-puff that shows up 1st thing in spring just above the ground. NOT THE SIZE OR HEIGHT OF THE LEAVES! The leaf stalks appear AFTER that single flower then rise to 24" and sometime more hold a purply casted large leaf, up to 20"in diameter and somewhat of a closed half-moon shape. Spread by stoloniferous rhizomes to form thick patches 3ft++ wide. Will grow practically anywhere but is native to wet, moist areas in shade. zone6 "Purple Butterbur"
