Petasites hybridus, pink flower stalk with reddish-pink bracts, 6-25", March. This is the height of the flower which appear before the leaf stalks! NOT THE HEIGHT of the leaves! The leaves are held at least 24-48"in the air ant the end of a solid stalk. The leaves are shaped in a closed half-moon. Round at sight. This is recognized by its reddish-pink blooms where the other forms are whitish. This bloom also will bloom itself up where its beautifully oranmaental in spring. This form is also the herbal/medicinal form. This contains Petasin which is a bitter compound used to treat migraine, headache and hay fever. Native to mainland Europe, Asia, and North America. Found in marshes, wet meadows, damp roadsides, riverbanks and ditches. Can grow in sun and shade. Any soil as long as it moist, wet, or boggy.
