Liatris ligulistylis, rose-purple, 28", July-September. Individual, fluffy buttons on their own tiny stem distinguishes this from many others. For whatever reason ( guess sweet pollen) this seems to attract THE MOST true Monarchs ever seen. Long flower stems have a purple cast to them. Clump forming. Average dry to medium soils. Tolerant of poorer soils, dry, sandy or rocky slopes, meadows and gravelly stream banks. Native from Alberta to New Mexico east to Wisconsin and Missouri. zone 3-8. "Rocky Mountain Blazing Star", "Rocky Mountain Gayfeather", Meadow Gayfeather".
